STOP - BREATH - DON'T PANIC
This is a Scam, the "Virus Detected" scam is a deceptive tactic employed by cybercriminals to instill panic in users and coerce them into taking actions detrimental to their device's security. These scams often manifest as pop-up messages claiming to have detected a virus or malware on the user's computer, accompanied by urgent instructions to call a provided number or download a suggested program to fix the issue. However, these warnings are usually entirely fabricated, designed to trick users into divulging personal information, granting remote access to their devices, or paying for unnecessary and potentially harmful services.
This can happen when you visit a site that is infected with Malware or a web-based Virus.
If you encounter a "Virus Detected" pop-up, it's crucial to remain calm and not engage with the message or its accompanying instructions. Instead, close the pop-up immediately by using the task manager or force-quitting the browser if necessary. Next, perform a thorough scan of your system using reputable antivirus software to ensure there are no genuine threats present. Remember to never provide personal or financial information to unsolicited pop-ups or calls, and always exercise caution when prompted to download or install software from unfamiliar sources.
